This past summer has been filled with incredible internship opportunities for many Rider CBA students. Our students have been gaining real world experiences with a vast array of companies across the country to complement their classroom education . For Junior Shehreyar Rehman, his experience went international. Shehreyar is from Lahore, Pakistan and he was given an offer to do an internship with KPMG in his home country this past summer. Here's what he had to say about his experience:
"I was able to get my internship by networking my way in. By having a family relative reach out to KPMG on my behalf and I sent in a resume. After that, I was called in for an interview which was conducted by a senior HR manager. After the interview, my official start date was the 4th of June and I began working for KPMG as soon as we got an audit engagement.
When I started the internship I mainly prepared minutes reports and perused through them to get an insight into the client's various committees’ activities and to gain an understanding into the system of internal controls for the interim audit at the financial institution. I completed training modules including global independence training, data privacy, information protection and ethical decision making. I also prepared and formatted a fixed assets working paper, edited the working papers of internal audit reports, prepared variance analysis and inquired reasons for variances related to other liabilities. Lastly, during my time, I was able to gain an understanding of other areas like treasury and provision of non-banking assets and Islamic modes of finance.
I feel like the internship was a great learning experience and opportunity. I haven't taken my audit course yet at Rider, so the internship gave me a good overview of the audit process. I've been studying accounting since my high school days and I deeply cherished the chance to be able to gain some real-world experience related to my major and future profession. Rider and Delta Sigma Pi played a big part in me developing my resume and skill set to get my foot in the door and I’d also like to thank the KPMG audit team for guiding me and making my internship an engaging experience."
Thank you Shehreyar for sharing your experience with us, and we are glad you had a wonderful experience with such a great company!
